At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, while in lockdown, Robert Ballantyne creates the /soundtrack database, cataloguing pop songs from his personal top 10 chart. As he enrols in graduate studies, the site takes on a more academic direction with its articles and podcasts.

Popjournalism's third and final print edition is released. It is distributed nationally to newsstands and bookstores across Canada.

Popjournalism's first story to reach 100,000 unique views. The website generates six-figure audiences every month between 2004-2006.

2001

Perceived as an entertainment website by five talented writers, Popjournalism receives many compelling article pitches. Embracing this unexpected turn, the site welcomes these writers as regular contributors. The site soon experiences a surge in popularity from a modest few hundred monthly visitors to tens of thousands.

January 1, 2000

Popjournalism is launched as a website intended to showcase Robert Ballantyne's growing freelance journalism portfolio. The site is coded and released in one morning at a University of Manitoba computer lab.
