Kylie Minogue may have disappeared from North American ears after her remake of “The Locomotion” in the 80s, but she has since thrived in the UK and her homeland of Australia. Performing at the Summer Olympics and popular enough for Madonna to sport a t-shirt with her name on it during her Brixton Academy performance, it’s a shame pop fans haven’t caught Kylie fever this side of the ocean. Light Years is a flat-out party album with blissful disco tracks and breathy vocals. While Minogue’s fizz gets a bit too bubbly with the over-the-top “Your Disco Needs You,” it’s in British radio hits like “Spinning Around” and “On a Night Like this” where she shines. And her duet with Robbie Williams on “Kids” is easily one of the best songs written for a mass audience in a long time. (EMI)
